1945年生于博山，1958年参加考试进入博山美术琉璃厂内画组，与张文堂、薛京万老艺人学习内画。 1975年调职就学，毕业于浙江美术学院。

改革1961年流传百年的内画竹画笔，使之成为内画狼毫安，为中国内画的迅速发展做出了巨大的贡献。 1971年上映了《水浒一百零八将》这一值得大书特书的内画，在中国广交会上引起了巨大的话题。
